Switch in breezy fabrics.

Fabrics like faux fur, tweed, and silk are great for bringing warmth into your home during the cold winter months, but they can feel a little heavy for spring. One way to give your home a quick update for the upcoming warmer weather is to switch out the heavier fabrics of your pillows and bedsheets with lighter fabrics like linen and printed cotton.

Add some florals.

Bringing nature indoors is a big trend in interior design in 2016, and there’s no better time than the springtime to get on this trend. Get some seasonal florals for your living room, dining room, and/or kitchen, and put them in a statement vase.

Bring in spring scents.

In addition to florals, you might consider adding a spring scent or two to your home’s interior. A new candle or scent diffuser can do wonders in changing the overall ambiance of a space.

Incorporate the season’s biggest colors.

The worlds of fashion and interior design collide more often than you might think, especially when it comes to color. Here are Pantone’s picks for the top ten colors in fashion for spring 2016:

  • Rose quartz, a soft, petal pink
  • Serenity, a dusty shade of blue
  • Peach echo, a slightly-duller-than-coral hue
  • Snorkel blue, a deep, rich dark blue
  • Buttercup, a bold, bright yellow
  • Limpet shell, a soft light blue
  • Lilac gray, classic gray with a strong purple undertone
  • Fiesta, a fiery red with a warm undertone
  • Iced coffee, a soft, neutral brown with a reddish undertone
  • Green flash, a rich, lively green

Pantone says of this season’s color collection, “Vivid brights give way to excitement and optimism, though quiet stability prevails in this season’s palette.” Look for ways to add these hues to your interior space through accent pieces like area rugs, throw pillows, and decorative accessories—or even try a statement piece of furniture if that suits your fancy.

Touch up your walls and trim.

Now is the time to give your walls and trim some extra love after the long winter months. Give them a light scrub with a damp cloth or a magic cleaning sponge to give your interior an overall cleaner feel. While you’re at it, be sure to touch up any dings and scratches with a touch of paint as needed.
